Labor & delivery information

IF YOU THINK YOU ARE IN LABOR: Call our office at 704-321-1077. If our office is closed, our answering service will get a message to your doctor if needed. If you are in active labor and do not think you can wait for further instructions, head to labor and delivery at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. There is always an obstetrician on-call to deliver your child. To reach the hospital, follow the directions to our office. We share a parking lot with the hospital. If you are in active labor, pull up to the front of the hospital. Your support person can help you out of the car and into the hospital before returning to park your car.

Your doctor will make every effort to be present for your delivery. However, our doctors rotate call, so there is a chance that another provider will deliver your child.

The Family Maternity Center at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center offers suites for labor and delivery as well as recovery, and has operating rooms ready should you need a scheduled or unscheduled Cesarean section (c-section). Neonatal nurse practitioners staff the hospital 24 hours a day, and are available should your baby need extra care after birth. The hospital is also home to a Level III NICU nursery.

You are invited to take a tour of the hospital before your delivery. This gives you and your birthing partner a chance to learn about what to expect. Please click here to learn more about the hospital.
