Seeing a gynecologist when you are not sick should be the foundation of every woman's gynecologic health. Annual exams give you a chance to establish a relationship with your doctor, and give your doctor a chance to discover and treat small problems before they become larger issues.
An annual gynecologic exam can involve:
- A review of your personal health history.
- A breast exam to check for lumps or other abnormalities.
- An abdominal exam to check for masses or other abnormalities.
- A pelvic exam including a Pap test to check for infections and precancerous cells in the vagina and cervix.
You will have time to ask questions about any concerns you have. You will also have an opportunity to learn about birth control options and choose the option that is right for you.
