Philomena G. Salvemini, MD
Empowering women and advocating for them are top priorities for Philomena Salvemini, MD. "Obstetrics and gynecology is the perfect forum for me to help care for women through the various stages of their lives and their daughter's lives," Dr. Salvemini explained. "Plus, there is nothing quite like helping bring a new life into this world."
Dr. Salvemini says she enjoys all aspects of obstetric and gynecologic care. "I especially enjoy pediatric and adolescent gynecology, as well as managing polycystic ovarian syndrome," she said. "I also like helping patients with infertility, sexual dysfunction, hormone replacement therapy and high-risk obstetrics."
She knows patients come to her with some difficult, personal issues. "I want all of my patients to feel like they are being heard," she said. "I want to offer them an open forum to tell me anything and everything that is bothering them in a safe environment." She adds that being part of a small practice makes it easier to address concerns quickly and develop individual relationships with her patients.
The question of where Dr. Salvemini is from has no easy answer. "I was born in New York City, but my father worked for the Drug Enforcement Administration, so we moved a ton," she recalled. "I've lived in New York, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Maryland and Florida."
She is happy to have settled in North Carolina, where she met her husband during her residency. Together, they have a young son named Cannon, and their youngest, Vivian, was born in April 2014. "We are beyond proud parents," she exclaimed. "Nearly anything we do with Cannon and Vivian is guaranteed to be entertaining at the very least!"
